6/25/2007 9:03:00 AM - The capacity utilization rate for total industry in Canada rose slightly in first-quarter 2007, to 83.0% from 82.4% in the previous quarter, but stayed flat for manufacturing at 81.1%. The strength in electric power capacity utilization (86.6%) points to increased construction of generating facilities. Utilization rates for most other industrial sectors suggest only slightly-above-average demand for expansion.
6/21/2007 9:23:00 AM - The huge school and college construction market is not part of the ongoing building boom in non-residential construction, but there are rapidly growing market niches. There are enrollment bulges in certain demographic cohorts. Regionally, school construction is heavily concentrated in the rapidly growing states in the South and the West. Finally, dollar spending on education construction has generally been matched by RSMeans' measure of the square footage cost increase, but this will change.
